Sheffield Steelers will face Fife Flyers at the Utilita Arena on Sunday 25 October, following an away Challenge Cup match against Cardiff Devils on Saturday 24 October. The home fixture is in the Elite League, while a win in Cardiff would send Sheffield into the Cup semi-finals, according to The Star.

Cup qualification within reach

Aaron Fox’s team lead Challenge Cup Group A on 12 points after eight matches. Nottingham Panthers are one point behind. Cardiff have four points fewer than Sheffield, but have played two fewer games.

Victory in South Wales would settle the Steelers’ qualification before their final group fixture, against Manchester Storm at the Utilita Arena on Wednesday 28 October.

Captain Robert Dowd will not travel to Cardiff. There are also concerns about Mitchell Balmas after he came off early against Guildford on Sunday 18 October.

Fife visit after two overtime wins

Sunday’s opponents have already beaten Sheffield twice this month. Fife won 2–1 in overtime on successive nights, with the first match in Sheffield and the second in Kirkcaldy.

The Flyers sit sixth in the Elite League with six points from five matches. Sheffield also have six points.

Steelers defenceman Dominic Cormier said: “The points we lost to them a couple of weeks ago still annoy us,” adding: “We just have to make sure that it doesn’t happen again. Defeat on Sunday is simply not an option.”
